Welcome to Hi-TECS
The High-Temperature Energy Conversion and Storage group (Hi-TECS) at Colorado School of Mines conducts research on energy conversion in materials, processes, and systems for efficient, sustainable, and innovative solutions to an array of energy conversion and energy storage challenges.
Led by Professor Greg Jackson, Hi-TECS research has a specific focus on processes that typically involve high-temperature, heterogeneous energy and/or chemical conversion. Our group combines the disciplines of thermal-fluid sciences, materials science, reacting flows, and electrochemistry with system analysis, optimization, and engineering design to address big technical challenges (such as large-scale energy storage, solar energy conversion, and scalable H2 production) that must be met for our nation to transition to a more sustainable energy infrastructure.
We approach our work on a variety of scales, including fundamental materials characterization to process analysis and modeling to full energy system design and optimization. We are proud to partner with other academic research groups both at Mines and at other institutions as well as with federal laboratories and companies — we understand that the big challenges facing our energy infrastructure can only be solved with a large and diverse team.
