Winfred Arthur-Arhin

PhD Candidate

Winfred is a PhD student in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mines. Winfred currently works on developing counterflow particle-to-sCO fluidized bed heat exchangers in next-generation concentrated solar power plants with particle-based thermal energy storage. Winfred’s work will be focused primarily on technoeconomic scaling of fluidized bed heat exchangers.

Winfred earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in May of 2017 and worked with the National Oil Company of Ghana.

Research areas include:

  • Heat transfer in fluidized bed heat exchangers
  • Renewable energy storage
  • Technoeconomic analysis of heat exchangers

Non-academic Interests include sports (play, watch, analyze), video games, sneaker collection/history.
